Evaluating Validators: Key Metrics for Delegators
When selecting a validator node to delegate tokens toward, participants should analyze several technical telemetry markers:
- Skip Rate: The percentage of assigned leader slots where the validator failed to produce a block. A consistently high skip rate indicates substandard server hardware, network congestion, or improper kernel tuning.
- Commission Percentage: The operational fee retained by the validator before passing rewards to delegators. Low commission (0–5%) is attractive for delegators, but zero-commission nodes must subsidize their daily voting costs through external capital.
- Decentralization Coefficient (Nakamoto Coefficient): Delegators should deliberately distribute stake toward high-performing validators outside the top 20 largest nodes to enhance network censorship resistance.
